Your work looks very interesting. The introduction to Christopher Alexanger is great. Many thanks.

As it happens I am reading Alexander's book "Nature of Order" (Vol. 1, The Phenemenon of Life). We used his approach to construct "pedagogic patterns" model as a way do write up a scenario of a teaching/learning sequence.

PS. It is a pity that I was not able to read your diagram. Could I access it elsewhere?

Thanks for the pointers Andy and thanks for the encouragement Pamela. Hopefully I will make some more progress on this over the next couple of months.

This is a quick response just to express interest. As a non-academic (I'm an ICT4Ed&D practitioner) I particularly liked the positive reference to practitioners. This pattern ties in well with my experiences (outside the formal education system) learning through online communities.

Yes, wikis make sense for managing pattern collections, but a lot more is involved as well.

One key project to look at is:
CPSR's Public Sphere Project www.publicsphereproject.org

They have produced an open source platform for managing pattern repositories in a distributed collaborative working environment. I believe that Till Schuemmer, http://www.pi6.fernuni-hagen.de/en/Team/schuemmer.html#research is doing related work.

Thanks Tom, great wiki is a great idea. Yes, some expansion of the problem essence is a good piece of advice. And even better, a beer bash in York!:^)

It's a great start, and I love it... BUT... for a pattern to work it has to be easily hyper-linked... you need a wiki... I'll make one if you want... and another thing.. I'd focus on the "The Essence of the Problem" ...

... pictures help too.

I recommend you organise a beer bash (with computers) where we create a number of "patterns"... enough to make the "language" interesting...
